Prime Big Deal Days, October 6-7

Prime Big Deal Days runs through Wednesday, October 7, and there is real hunting gear in the mix this time, not just off brand headlamps. We went through the deals and pulled the ones worth a look for a Southern deer season.

The timing works in our favor. In North Alabama the rut is about six weeks out, and in the Black Belt and the southwest corner you have until Christmas or later (here is why Alabama’s rut runs so late). Anything you buy this week is in the woods well before the good stuff starts.

01 / The Short List

Five Deals We'd Grab First

  1. Best overall

    BOG DeathGrip Hunting Tripod

    $130save $115

A clamp-in shooting rest for ground blinds and long looks across a cutover. Close to half off is the biggest cut on this list.

  2. Best trail camera

    Moultrie Edge Solar Cellular

    $99save $50

Built-in solar means fewer trips in to swap batteries, which means less scent on your scrape line in November.

  3. Best optic

    Bushnell Trophy TRS-25 Red Dot

    $44save $76

A cheap, proven red dot for a hog gun, a slug gun, or the youth rifle.

  4. Best under $50

    Walker's Razor Slim Electronic Muffs

    $41save $40

Sight-in season is now. Protect your ears at the bench and still hear the guy next to you.

  5. Best splurge

    Sitka Dew Point Pant

    $182save $147

A rain pant that is quiet enough to hunt in. December and January in South Alabama are wet, and that is when our rut is going.

02 / Scouting

Trail Cameras

The best scouting tool for a staggered rut. Hang one on a scrape now and the photos will tell you when your deer actually get going, instead of guessing from somebody else’s calendar. Cellular cams also mean you stay out of the woods until it matters.

03 / Where You Sit

Tree Stands and Blinds

Good time to add a second stand for the other wind, or a ground blind for the kids. Whatever you hang, wear a harness and stay clipped in from the ground up.

04 / Glass

Optics and Rangefinders

The Vortex Viper PST at $300 off is the biggest dollar savings in the whole sale. For most of us in thick Southern woods, a rangefinder and a decent pair of binoculars will matter more than another scope.

05 / At the Bench

Shooting Gear

06 / After the Shot

Knives and Processing

If you process your own deer, the WildLite set or the field dressing kit is cheap enough to keep one in the truck.

07 / Clothing

Sitka Gear

Sitka rarely goes on sale. The lightweight pieces make sense for an Alabama October; save the heavier stuff for the late season.

New Gear, Same Question: When Do They Move?

Hunting Club logs every sit with the date, the weather, what you saw, and the sign you found. Pair it with a trail camera and in a season or two you will know your own rut window better than any forecast.
